Work That Makes Me Happy

Learning from experts about ideas unfamiliar to me and conveying those ideas to other non-experts.

Crafting sentences that communicate a clear message to a specific audience.

Collaborating with clients, designers, photographers, video production teams, musicians, dancers, actors and other writers.

Skills I Use Almost Daily

Leading, following, collaborating, listening, explaining, persuading, encouraging, making a schedule or plan, completing, assessing or remaking a schedule or plan.

History

For six years, until January 2015, I was project coordinator for a federal grant project in Radford University’s School of Teacher Education and Leadership. For the prior 14 years I worked as a writer, editor, project manager and public relations coordinator for RU’s public relations office. Before that I was an editor for a small book publishing company. In the more distant past I taught middle school, high school and college English, with a few guest spots in elementary grades.

Recognition

My work has earned state, regional and national recognition from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Advertising Federation of the Roanoke Valley, the Virginia Public Relations Society and Admissions Marketing Report.
